Save the Winchester campaign: another application
Having failed to re-open the beautiful and historic Winchester Tavern in Archway Road - despite a Asset of Community Value listing and a petition to save it - the owners have put in a new planning application which would further erode the pub. You can comment here.
How can we revive the High Street?
High Street experts Jamie Dean (GLA High Street Programme) and Jan Kattein (architect) will kick off the discussion but we need your input at a community ideas workshop, led by Debbie Bourne of Transition Kentish Town between 6 and 8.30 pm on Thursday 8 May in the Upper Gallery of Lauderdale House on Highgate Hill.
- What will be on our High Streets in one or 10 years?
- How can we support sustainable travel and business?
- How can the High Street become a place for inter-generational activity and skill sharing?
- How can we support businesses and what can they do to create change?

Haringey in a time of climate emergency
What is Haringey Council doing about Climate Emergency? What should the national government be doing? What can residents do? Hear from campaigners and the Council at a public meeting, organised by Action on Climate Change Haringey and chaired by Catherine West MP from 12.30-3pm on Saturday 13 April at the Royal British Legion Hall, Muswell Hill Road, N10 3NG.
A date for your Festival diary: play projects proposals
Find out about the HNF proposals for the BMX track and new playground near Parkland Walk at a drop in event between 10am and 12 noon on Sat 22 June at Highgate Library, 1 Shepherds Hill. Watch this space for more details of this and other Highgate Festival events.
Spending our Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money
We will soon be asking for your bids for Haringey CIL funding. Up to £1.8million is likely to become available over the next few years for local projects within the Haringey part of the Highgate Neighbourhood Forum area. The exciting news is that the Council has passed on the decision making for these funds to the Forum. We are therefore working hard - in conjunction with both Councils - to establish a fair and open process which we hope to publicise over the Summer. In the meantime, get your thinking caps on about both revenue and capital projects which you might wish to champion and which tie in with the Neighbourhood Plan's priorities.
In the Camden side of Highgate it's more complicated as they have a ward councillor-led process and we share our ward with the Dartmouth Park Neighbourhood Forum. However, we are working closely with the DPNF to make sure Camden takes account of our Plans' priorities. £552,000 is likely to become available in the Camden CIL community pot for Highgate over the next three years.
Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points near you
Haringey are in the midst of rolling out Phase 1 of new EV charging points on our streets. If you would like to see them in your street, this would be a good time to write in and request them as a part of Phase 2. You should contact Frontline Services stating that you are thinking of getting an EV and giving your name, address and email address.
Checkout the Highgate Calendar for full listings of events this and every month. You can add your own events there, too - vital if you want to make sure you are not clashing with other Highgate events
Let us know if you want us to include an event or campaign you are running in this newsletter via info@forhighgate.org.
