Highgate Neighbourhood Forum
September newsletter
No news yet from the Councils on the timetable for the Neighbourhood Plan but there's an update on the Environmental Report on the Plan at: http://www.ForHighgate.org/plan/
Meantime, Highgate is bursting with events and campaigns this month, so get stuck in!
Special offer for Jacksons Lane family show
You can buy tickets at a special offer price of £8 (originally £12.50) for the latest Jacksons Lane circus show "The Hogwallops". It's on from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th September. Go to: https://www.jacksonslane.org.uk/whats-on and type "Bananas" into the offers box.
This month's Pub Club is The Boogaloo
Come and make new friends in the relaxed atmosphere of The Boogaloo, 321 Archway Road, N6 5AT from 7.30 pm on Thursday, 15 September. More information at http://www.ForHiighgate.org/highgate-pub-club/
Lark in the Park on September 17
And don't forget the Lark in the Park on Saturday, a celebration of the 125th anniversary of the opening of Waterlow Park. Running from 12.30 pm, it will start with school children processing down Highgate High Street behind a brass band. A ceremony reflecting the original of 1891 will be followed by a traditional village fete (to be opened by TV's Paul Whitehouse), including a food and drink court and some 20-30 covered stalls. More details at http://www.waterlowpark.org.uk/
Taking action in the High Street
Our joint action group with the Highgate Society, looking at how we can support existing and new traders and do something about the vacant premises in Highgate High Street, has begun work. We are hoping to bring together shop landlords and potential new tenants (who can add to the Village's "offer" and thus increase the all important "footfall"), so if you are one or the other, or know someone who might fit the bill, please get in touch via info@ForHighgate.org. A similar group is also working in the Archway Road.
Air Quality Campaign
Our campaign to improve Highgate's air quality is also kicking off so do get in touch if you would like to be involved - perhaps lobbying for "cleaner" buses or working with local schools.
Grants for cycling projects available
Community groups across London can apply for up to £10,000 to fund cycling projects over a three year period. Funding applications close on 19 September 2016, with over £180,000 available in grants this year.
Transport for London (TfL) is calling all community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for cycling grants, which will equip them to help more people cycle. Cycling Grants London (CGL) helps to fund cycling initiatives such as cycle training, bike maintenance courses and guided rides. Find out more at http://www.cyclinggrants.london
Sustainable Homes event for architects
The Highgate Society Sustainable Homes group is arranging a training event for architects on designing in low energy at the Arlington Centre Camden on 11th Oct.
It will focus on renovations/extensions to typical North London homes and demonstrate that this is when energy use can be much improved. More information at: http://www.highgatesociety.com/pages/place/sustainable-homes/events/architect-event-oct-2016.php.
