A new committee to push the Plan through to Referendum and drive our campaigns
Forum Committee 2016/17
First of all, a huge thank you to Rachel Allison who stood down after two very busy years as Chair of the Forum at our AGM on 1 June. I doubt whether the Neighbourhood Plan would ever have been finished without her expertise and sheer hard work and I am glad to report that she is going to help us see it through to Referendum.
An excellent AGM - which also launched our Air Quality Campaign (see below) - elected the following to the new Committee:
Maggy Meade-King - Chair
Martin Narraway - Vice Chair
Christopher Riley - Secretary and Archway Road Action Group
Neil Perkins - Treasurer
Dan Stranescu - Planning Matters
Louise Lewis - Planning and Community Participation
Allan Rapley - Village Action Group
Alicia Pivaro - Village Action Group and Air Quality Campaign
Simon Briscoe - Traffic and Transport
Hannah Liptrot - Social Media
Ian Henghes - IT
Martin Adeney - Press
Antony Grossman
Michael Hammerson
Richard Webber
You can read all about the AGM Air Quality presentations and the Chair's Report here.
Neighbourhood Plan to be submitted to the Councils
As I write, Rachel and I are making the final edits to the Submission Draft of the Neighbourhood Plan - I'll let you know when the Plan and its accompanying reports and appendices are published on the website. Camden and Haringey Councils will then undertake a formal Consultation, which will be followed by Examination by an independent inspector. Finally - probably in November - everyone on the Electoral Register in Highgate will be able to vote for or against it in our very own Referendum. Watch this space!
Action Groups and Campaigns
We are working jointly with The Highgate Society, local councillors, residents and Archway Road traders in an Archway Road Action Group. The current key issues the Group wants to address are the protection of the business premises from change of use into residential properties, sub standard conversions and funding for the preservation and refurbishment of original shop fronts. Plans are afoot for a similar group for the Village shopping area.
Please get in touch if you would like to get involved with our Air Quality Campaign - find out more in the AGM post and the Air Quality Survey or you would like to help us campaign for two Hoppa Bus routes to llnk us with neighbouring communities, hospitals and schools. We also need people to work on lobbying for safe cycle routes in Highgate, so let us know if you can help. These are all linked of course and we may often band together - do join in!
Free use of audio/visual kit
Thanks to a grant from Haringey Council, we now have a projector and screen + a mic and speaker available for community use across Highgate. Let us know via info@ForHighgate.org if you would like to borrow them for your meeting.
This month's Pub Club is at The Flask
Last but not least, this month's Pub Club is at The Flask on Monday 18 July - see the website for more details. Come and join us to talk about all of the above or just a convivial evening with your neighbours. See you there!
