TfL consulting to move unpopular bus stand after 15 years of pressure
The Highgate Society, Highgate Neighbourhood Forum and local councillors of all parties have been campaigning for the removal of the unsightly and dangerous 271 bus terminus for upwards of 15 years, but the last 4 years of increased pressure has finally paid off. TfL is consulting on the stand's removal to North Road with a view to implementing any changes by the end of the year. Another positive outcome to the proposals would be the loss of the dangerous 214 turning on the mini roundabout outside St Michael's primary school.
In a nutshell, what the Highgate Forum sees as the benefits to the proposals are here. But please go online and let TfL know what you think. The TfL consultatiton is open until 13th March.
Haringey Councillors - Funds available for local groups
Our local Haringey councillors have been allocated £10,000 to spend in the ward and are looking for proposals on how to spend it.
"The money is available to improve the wellbeing of the local community, environment or economy.
The application for the grant must be:
· for the local ward area (not the whole borough)
· for one-off expenditure with no expectation of future funding
· for a minimum of £1,000, for applications from external organisations (the whole fund is £10,000)
· from an organisation with a constitution, or from a small group or individual that has a sponsor that is a constituted local organisation willing to administer the funds on their behalf
If you, or a local group you know, would like to bid for the grant, or have any questions about the process, please contact Cllr Liz Morris, Cllr Bob Hare and Cllr Clive Carter at lbc@haringeylibdems.org
The consultation on the second draft of the Highgate Neighbourhood Plan ends on Feb 7th. We were delighted to receive this exceptionally supportive response from Historic England (formerly English Heritage) this week. You can read the Plan, see all the comments we've received, and add your own here.
Vote on the current CiL list
Please also take the opportunity to vote on the current CiL list to prioritise future spending in Highgate. This will be the list that is submitted to Camden and Haringey with the draft Plan so please have your say. The list will be reopened following the referendum.
Save the Winchester Campaign
The once thriving Winchester pub on Archway Road is being incrementally developed. A planning application for flats above the pub has been extended to include flats in the basement and even more on the ground floor. Local campaigners led by The Miltons Residents Association fear the developers will argue that such a small bar is no longer viable and this valuable community asset, and beautiful example of a Victorian bar, will be lost forever. Please support the campaign by clicking here. (This may not open in Safari but is fine in Firefox).
